Lessons / Tutoring
I am a Physics teacher with a wealth of experience having taught A level Physics in all exam boards, including international qualifications, for the past 19 years. In addition to my teaching I have been tutoring online for five years and I have found this to be very effective with students achieving grades that have exceed their targets - partly through the clear understanding that I am able to bring, but I can´t take all the credit, it´s essential that the student engages well and works hard so that the understanding is consolidated through practice which I’ll provide to follow up each tutorial.
Online tutoring provides a powerful learning experience as I have access to all the resources that I need to share (diagrams, past questions etc. ) and I always provide follow up consolidation work. During the tutorial we´ll pack in explanations and examples so that you grasp the concepts firmly and then move on to expressing the new learning effectively in past exam questions with guided support. I´m happy to steer us through the learning or for you to identify the areas you´d like to focus on then I can take a lead. Perhaps it works well to keep pace with the learning at school or maybe there are areas which you haven´t grasped well that need reviewing. I´ll rapidly work through the material to identify the parts which need work then we´ll focus on these to ensure that they are mastered. We´ll be able to gain a thorough understanding and cover lots of practice questions to ensure that you are ready to achieve your very best when it comes to exams day.
Whilst you´ll be able to find less expensive tutors (and more expensive ones too), they may lack my direct teaching experience or a complete grasp of the whole course. In addition I have motivated hundreds of students through A level exam courses and have a thorough knowledge of exam technique and preparation skills. I have also been the exams officer at my academy, so I have a great working knowledge of the procedure from their point of view. Being an examiner for International Physics A level qualifications also enables me to have a clear view on what is required to gain full marks in each question and this enables me to support students thoroughly with exam preparation.
I am a native English speaker and this could prove an additional benefit, especially if your aspiration directs you towards a university in the UK.
Let me leave you with some feedback from tutees who received their results last summer:
´´A grade A in physics. I got in to my first choice so I`m happy!´´
´´Hi Steve. Thought I`d let you know I got a B in my Physics which I`m so happy about (considering my projection was a C/D) and got into the course I wanted. Thank you so much for the support, it really helped me out. ´´
[From student`s mum] ´´She got an A in physics - we`re all in shock! Thanks so much for all your help tutoring, we`re convinced it made all the difference. ´´
´´Thank you very much for all of your time and support. . . I got a C in physics :). It was a pleasure to work with you and can`t thank you enough!´´ [Student retook physics A level having first received a U. The C grade secured a higher level apprenticeship with Rolls Royce].
´´Hellooo, B in physics, I`m really happy. Thankyou so much!´´ [Student initially contacted me after receiving a grade E in physics A level mock exam].
´´Thankyou for all the help and support you have given me in Physics. I appreciate it so much! I wouldn`t be where I am today without you!´´
