Position: NURSERY WORKER

Job Summary

Responsible to the Nursery Foreman/Supervisor for the management of the ornamental plants nursery to grow horticultural plants, for example trees, shrubs, flowers, or ornamental plants, for landscape projects requirements, sale to trade or retail customers:

Primary responsibilities

The job responsibilities are divided into three main areas:
· Infrastructure Maintenance
· Growing Plants
· Maintenance of Plants

Infrastructure Maintenance

Under the supervision of the Nursery Foreman/Supervisor the Nursery Worker perform general maintenance of the Nursery listed in the following non-exhausted listed:

· To keep the area clean
o Dispose of green waste, used polybags, debris etc.
o Clear the drainage to prevent water clogging
o Perform grass cutting as schedule

· To make sure that the nursery infrastructure is well maintained
o To keep the green houses, sheds and alike clean
o To repair any torn netting etc.

· To maintain all the basic tools and equipment
o To clean the gardening tools and to keep them in working condition like sharpening the blades etc.
o To perform preventive maintenance on grass cutter
o To perform basic maintenance tasks on the equipment such as soil mixer

Growing Plants

With instruction from Nursery Manager, the worker may perform any or all of the following tasks:

· Propagation
o To propagate plants from cutting
o To propagate plants from seeds
o To propagate Plants via grafting or layering

· Care of the seedlings and plantlets
o To constantly water the seedlings and plantlets
o To remove any weed
o To ensure that the seedlings and plantlets are healthy from any diseases or infection

· Hardening
o To re bag the seedlings and plantlets and move to growing area for hardening
o To apply fertilizer as instructed by Nursery Manager
o To apply herbicide, pesticide or any other treatment as recommended by Nursery Manager
o To remove any weed or other unwanted growth
o Watering

· Plant Preparation
o To assist the Nursery Foreman/Supervisor for the selection of plants required for the projects or garden maintenance
o To prepare plants to be used for projects, garden maintenance or sale

Maintenance of Plants

To perform the maintenance tasks as scheduled by Nursery Manager and under supervision of Nursery Foreman/Supervisor.

· Watering
· Weeding
· Pruning
· Tree trimming
· Fertilizing
· Cultivation/tiling
· Application of Pesticide, Herbicide etc.

Composting and Mixed Soil Preparation

Under the instruction of Nursery Manager the worker might be required to prepare compost and mixed soils.

· Prepare Compost
· Soil sieving
· Prepare the required materials for the mixed soil e. g. compost, burnt paddy husks and alike
· Mixed all the required materials with top soil using the soil mixer
· Bagging the mixed soil
Plant Inventory
· To assist the Nursery Foreman/Supervisor in preparing the plant inventory

Education Required: Lower Secondary Assessment (PMB) or equivalent (BJCE)
Age: 25 - 40 years old
Driving License Class: 3
Basic Salary: B$ 500 / Month
Employment Type: Full Time
